My name is Chad, and I am a recovering addict.  For 17 years, I battled against an addiction to opiates that nearly destroyed my life and the lives of everyone around me.  Everything in my life revolved around my drug use, and it is difficult to describe the feeling of powerlessness you experience when it grabs a hold of you takes control of your life.  There were days when I would look at myself in the mirror and I could see the drugs sucking the life out of me, but the addiction was too powerful. Every time I tried to go to battle against my addiction, the addiction won.  After making countless attempts at trying to find the right solution to my addiction, I reached a point where I was convinced that my life would come to an end soon, but I never thought I would take my wife and son’s life with me until the day I fell asleep at the wheel after taking too many opiates the previous night.  Fortunately, my wife was able to wake me up before we slammed into the car in front of us.  I will never forget the scream and the fear in my wife’s eyes when I came to the realization that I had just fallen asleep with my wife and son in the car.  This was what it took for me to hit rock bottom.  After spending countless hours researching every possible avenue for help with my addiction, I found Raise the Bottom Addiction Treatment in Boise, and I scheduled an appointment.  One of my greatest fears was the severe withdrawals I assumed that I would have to go through to start an addiction treatment program.  But after meeting with the doctor and starting the Methadone Treatment, I was surprised to discover that I did not experience withdrawals and the cravings completely disappeared.  For the first 30 days, I received small increases until I reached a therapeutic dose that worked for me and I haven’t felt the need to increase my dose for over two years.  Since day one, my addiction counselor and the staff at Raise the Bottom have been there for me, and I couldn’t have done it without them.  I will be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2018, and my career goal is to become an addiction counselor.  I would like to thank Raise the Bottom for saving my life.
